The Canada Reads crown goes to a 16-year-old with a cutting wit and complex inner and outer life. Nomi Nickel is the main character in the novel A Complicated Kindness by Winnipeg author Miriam Toews. Panelist John K. Samson prevailed with this tale of a sixteen-year-old who is struggling to find her place in her mixed-up family, in her Mennonite village, and in the world at large.
