Update on the Fulbright Scholaship

**There is a change in venue for the Fulbright Scholarship Info Session. The session will now be in 2C10. **

The Foundation for Educational Exchange between Canada and the United States of America is now recruiting applicants for the 2009-2010 Fulbright Awards and Killam Scholarships.

On October 6, 2008 the University of Winnipeg will host two Information Sessions regarding the prestigious Fulbright Awards and Killam Fellowships.

The Canada-U.S. Fulbright Program: www.fulbright.ca is a bi-national program supported by the Government of Canada, through the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade Canada, the Government of the United States, through the Department of State, and a large number of public and private sector partners.

The mandate of the Canada-U.S. Fulbright Program is to enhance mutual understanding between the people of Canada and the people of the United States by providing support to outstanding graduate students, faculty, professionals and independent researchers. These individuals conduct research, lecture, or enrol in formal academic programs in the other country. Educational exchange allows for the development of our future leaders, it encourages a more nuanced appreciation of each other, and it contributes to a more thoughtful and more reasoned public policy debate in both countries.

The Killam Fellowships Program: http://www.killamfellowships.com is a new exchange program that allows senior undergraduate students to study in the United States for one semester or a full academic year. The program is designed to encourage exceptional undergraduate students in the two countries by providing a unique opportunity for academic exchange. Students can apply either to the direct exchange program, which is limited to the participating university partners, or to the open competition, allowing for participation from (and to) any accredited degree granting college or university in either country.

This program, which is administered by the Foundation for Educational Exchange between Canada and the United States of America, is supported by the American Killam Trusts, the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade Canada, and the Foundation. It is an integral part of the Foundation's multidimensional strategy to foster mutual understanding between the citizens of Canada and the citizens of the United States.

This Fellowship will provide $12,500 (Canadian) annually for a student registered in the Joint Masters Program in History at The University of Winnipeg or the PhD program in History at The University of Manitoba. Loewen Family Foundation.

The D.F. PLETT GRADUATE FELLOWSHIP IN THE HISTORY OF LOW GERMAN CONSERVATIVE MENNONITES IN THE AMERICAS is funded through the generosity of the D.F. Plett Historical Research Foundation, Inc. This Fellowship provides $10,000 for a student at the MA level and $15,000 for a student enrolled at the PhD level. The D.F. This Fellowship is intended to encourage and offer support to graduate students who are pursuing studies and research in the history of the forerunners and descendants of the 1870s Mennonite migrants to Manitoba.
