On the path of Hurricane Katrina

"A sprint through New Orleans flood waters, bricks covering vehicles, a roof missing on the Superdome, and glow sticks lighting the way in a dark hotel." These words were written moments ago by Patrick Cooper and Bob Swanson, members of the USATODAY.com news and weather teams. They are "blogging" the latest information on Hurricane Katrina, which recently made its presence felt on the Gulf coast. Keep up with Katrina by checking USA Today's blog and CNN's weather blog
You can also check Wikipedia for more information on Katrina and hurricanes.

Ready Set Go - Update

Planning for Ready Set Go is underway . . .

RSG runs August 29 to September 2. The schedule is available at http://readysetgo.uwinnipeg.ca.

That page also shows the correct state of registrations. Registrations will start picking up next week, students are just receiving print information now in the mail.

Registration will be capped at 100 per time slot. We'll be using a maximum of four labs:

Uplink (65 computers)
Learning Commons (15)
3C12 (40)
3G10 (30)

Which means even if we cap at 100, we'll be able to go over. We'd rather not have to use 3G10.

Library and TSC staff will team up to run the sessions (I have somewhat arbitrarily made assignments -- any problems contact me):

Uplinks - Karen Hunt and Michele del Rizzo
Learning Commons - Jackie Mikolash and Dawn Romanowich
3C12 - Carolyn Minor and Marnie Loewen
3G10 (if needed) Mark Leggott / Christine Cullingworth (I'll leave Pat Duguay to work that out!) and Mike Langedock

Roamers - Tim Allen, Bob Emery, Monica Fritz

These assignments will probably need to change for the two evening sessions, depending who's available (Mike L. has volunteered to cover the evenings from the TSC side).

Michele is developing a "got a problem" form to give to students for problems that come up (eg, can't claim account).

Darcy Duggan will be supplying red t-shirts for us.

Carolyn has ordered candy.

I'm in the process of transferring over the workshop content to a Wiki. Right now anyone can go in and edit - http://wiki.uwinnipeg.ca, but we'll be restricting access to account holders soon.

I'll be booking a meeting / training session for Aug 22 or 23.
