A quiet day. There were a few requests for login help and research assistance early in the day. The rest of the afternoon was silent.
Have a great weekend.

A blaze of activity right off the bat in the first hour or two, and then a steady trickle thereafter. Mostly research assistance and citation help required. One thorny database login issue that remains unresolved: I have forwarded the information to CJ and have emailed the patron with further suggestions.
Have a great week!

Steady day again today with several new users and some in depth questions. Finding this week and last that there are some students who have never used the website or library systems before so it presents a bit of a challenge to explain the systems over IM. But, by working with the student, and having some patience, we always mange to find what they need!
Cheers,
Heather

Steady day today. My UWinnipeg was down and so there were many calls about logging into webmail. I emailed the computer help desk about the outage. The meebo network also went down for about half an hour in the middle of the day, but came back up and worked for the rest of the shift.
A patron signalled that a book listed as out in the catalogue is in fact on the shelf. I emailed circulation about this.
Thanks,
Cathy
Hi Cathy/Heather,
You've been quite busy on the weekends with calls, which is great! Possibly it has something to do with the fact that the Live Help widget is all over our website now. I've just begone my evening shift an hour ago, and have had already 4 heavy duty research questions asked, you know, the ones where you go, yikes I'm glad that's not my homework! ;) I do find that students often skip over finding background info before they try and find journal articles. I attempt to gently steer them to our books first before digging into the databases for journal articles on some vague topic that the student hasn't quite put together yet. Assignments don't always focus on process!
I'll be passing on your project on the refworks instructions to Alex our new Reference & IL librarian. He'll hopefully have time to sort out any issues outstanding. Thanks for working on this, it's important to have the right instructions when we're promoting RefWorks as a resource for students.
I'm in Edmonton during the week of the 10th of December (attending the IL Workshop on the 10th in Camrose), so I'd like to take you both out for lunch/dinner if you're around. Let me know if that's possible.
Good luck on your next shifts. I'll try to check in when I can. :)

Steady today again with people who were not familiar with database use. As a result several interactions were very time consuming. Continued to look at the viewlets.
Thanks,
Heather

A busy and steady day. The issue concerned a patron's RefWorks account: s/he was unable to export or import data. Login--to the database and to RefWorks--was not an issue. I referred this issue to libsystems. CJ suggested that this may be a browser issue: I emailed the patron to indicate this, but haven't heard back.
That's about it!
