Calls: 10
Issues: None

Tonight was steady with research and technical questions. Students were once again thankful to have someone there to help them
This was my last shift and I can't thank you enough CJ! What a great experience and opportunity you have provided with this position. I really think IM reference is around to stay in the library world and this experience has provided me a great knowledge of the service. I have learned so much and thank you for your ongoing support.
Cheers and thanks,
Heather

Calls: 5
Issues: none

A quiet day: no issues. Some requests for research help; mostly, callers had trouble logging in with IE to databases. I did a few database descriptions and loaded these into Library News (unpublished).
Last shift! Thanks for everything, CJ. I have learned so much this year--not only about the technology of IM, but about databases, searching, and helping patrons. It has been really great--EPL is now expanding their IM service and I was able to help with that, thanks to my experience at UW. I know this experience will serve me very well in future work, too. I really appreciate being able to have this job--I think I prefer this way of interacting with patrons!
All the best and many thanks,
Cathy

Last Shifts!

Hi Cathy and Heather,

Your last shift this weekend! Wow, this year just flew by. I hope you've enjoyed your time with us and speak fondly of your experience. :) It's definitely been a pleasure working with both of you.

There's a couple of things I need you to email me:

1. What were the best parts of the job, and what did you not like about it?
2. What did you feel were the busiest times of your shift?
3. What changes would you like to see us make (in terms of the position, website, etc.)?

Many thanks to both of you for all you've done for us! Best of luck with finishing up your work at SLIS (whether in April or over the spring term). Let me know if you need me to be a reference for future jobs.

All the best,
CJ

Calls: 4
Issues: None

Calls were simple, mostly outside of the library such as hours of university buildings. Things were quiet. Had a couple of patrons come on just to see if someone was there and to say Happy Easter.
Hope you had a good Easter!

Calls: 7
Issues: Problem with the Library Guide Write n' Cite instructions

A fairly quiet day. Most calls were about library hours: it might be worthwhile putting something in Library News on the home page about Easter weekend hours.
The problem with the Write n' Cite had to do with the login: the libguide indicates that patrons can do without the group code by following the instructions given. A patron called in after having followed those instructions and repeatedly getting a server error. When he/she went back and did it the old way, using the group code, s/he was able to log in.

Calls: 3
Issues: none

A quiet day. No issues to report: the widget seemed to be working all day. I added some tabs to the Libguides pages worked on database description.
See you next week!

Calls: 11
Issues: None

Had some interesting calls today that took up some time. Added a small box to CJ's faculty libguide...not sure if it is right or not but I thought I would try. Other than that it was a good day overall.
Have a good week,
Heather

Calls: 11
Issues: Could not use 'find text' on some EBSCO databases

Was steady tonight with database questions and trouble locating full text articles. I had a really bad migraine all day and was unable to do any other work (staring at the screen was really bad). I apologize and promise to work extra hard next weekend.

Issues: Meebo disconnected briefly, but came back in service shortly thereafter.

A fairly quiet day. I finished transferring material from the IRG into the Library Research Guides. I couldn't figure out how to make drop down menus within the tabs (as in the Book section), so the information pages within each tab are piled on top of each other in a rather unsightly way. Sorry about this. The info is there, but the formatting needs work.

Calls: 20
Issues: None

It was very very busy tonight with almost constant questions, and some really in depth. I did not get the opportunity to work on anything else. That being said, I am unaware of the project that Cathy is working on - should I be working on it too? If so, where to do I find the information regarding the project?
I also received a lot of positive feedback about the LiveHelp system this evening - yay!
Have a great week,
Heather

A steady day.
Worked on transferring data from the Information Research Guide in Learn (http://library.uwinnipeg.ca/learn/irg/) to the libguide (http://libguides.uwinnipeg.ca). Had to log in using CJ's id and password.
Heather, just go to the little drop down menu in the middle of the page (Select a guide or page to edit) to get to the Information Research Guide. Save it as unpublished when you're done and logging out.
Some formatting issues in "What are SCHOLARLY journals?" section: the table goes outside the textbox. I didn't change this.
Also, I removed the "View How" links that were dead from the libguide versions.
Wasn't sure how to format the whole works: in some cases I put what I thought might be considered introductory materials in the side boxes, and then pasted the rest into the other boxes; in other cases, I simply used the main boxes (as the side boxes get a bit squeezed).
I think got most of the Find Information part of the info guide transferred. Formatting issues remain, though.
